DeDe Mustill, R.N. is our Faith Community Nurse and Director of Health Ministry program at LTBC.

The Health Ministry team is composed of congregation members who are either in or interested in the health field.

Some of the services offered by the Health Ministry include support groups, health screenings, health counseling, grief and loss support and physician referral.
Faith Community Nursing…serving others in a Spiritual care setting with the compassionate heart of a  nurse is the driving passion behind this rapidly growing specialty. By working in church congregations, Faith Community Nurses help meet the health needs of many who might otherwise go untreated or unnoticed.
For Example:
Pam receives word of an abnormal mammogram and calls her Pastor for support.  After talking with Pam, the Pastor puts her in touch with DeDe the Faith Community Nurse, who provides Pam with information on breast health and supports her through the evaluation process.
The Miller family is providing care in their home for great grandmother in her final days…Sherry, the Faith Community Nurse, helps find needed caregiving resources.
During a routine blood pressure screening at his church, Faith Community Nurse Sandra finds John’s blood pressure dangerously high.  She refer him for immediate evaluation and treatment, and sees it brought to a healthy number through medical intervention and lifestyle changes.

Working with the pastoral staff of their own area church, Faith Community Nurses use their knowledge as registered nurses coupled with special training, to create a health program that serves the needs of their congregation
Like Faith Community Nurses, Health Ministers are health professional or lay-persons who understand the importance of caring for the whole person. They, too, dedicate their time to furthering the health ministry program designed for their church community in conjunction with a designated  health ministry team.  Such programs are tailored to address the specific health needs of each community and often include the following activities:
  •             Support Groups
  •             Blood Pressure & Health Screenings
  •             Health Education Presentation
  •             Communicating Health Information
  •             Grief & Loss Support
  •             Parenting & Family Life Topics
  •             Healing Services
  •             Personal Health Counseling
  •             Physician Referral
Churches with health ministry teams truly become “centers” for health and wholeness as they coordinate health information and lifestyle applications within the framework of spiritual care. Health ministry teams are composed of members of the congregation who have a love for God, an interest in health and a desire to help others. The ultimate goal of health ministry is to equip  each member to incorporate whole person  health principles and experience the abundant life promised by God – physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
