TUOLUMNE COUNTY TAKE-BACK DAY
by DeDe Mustill RN | September 11, 2015Some folks have asked me what is the best way to dispose of unused or expired medicaitons? I would like to address this question in my blog because of the potential as a public safety issue. Unused prescription drugs thrown in the trash can be retrieved and abused or illegally sold. Unused drugs that are flushed contaminate the water supply. Pharmaceutical drugs can be just as dangerous as street drugs when taken without a prescription or a doctor's supervision. The majority of teenagers abusing prescription drugs get them from family and friends - and the home medicine cabinet. Unauthorized use can lead to accidental poisoning, overdose and abuse.
Be a part of the solution by taking your unused/expired drugs* to Tuolumne County Take-Back Day on Saturday, September 26 from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM at the Junction Shopping Center located at the corner of Mono Way and Tuolumne Road, Sonora. Look for the signs.
* You are encourraged to drop off prescribed and over the counter medications except for IV solutions, injectables, and syringes.
Participants are encouraged to remove medications from their containers prior to disposal.
